Land Acknowledgement

Our Commitment to the Land

The Secret Garden is grateful to grow, gather, create and welcome our community in Milton, on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat and Haudenosaunee peoples.

Our flower fields and garden are rooted along the banks of Sixteen Mile Creek, while our shop brings us together in the heart of downtown Milton. Living and growing along the creek has deepened our connection to the land, water, plants and all living things that sustain us.

We acknowledge that these lands and waterways have been cared for by Indigenous peoples since time immemorial. We honour the knowledge, traditions and stewardship that have shaped this place long before our own roots took hold, and we recognize the ongoing presence and contributions of Indigenous communities today.

As gardeners, growers and stewards of the land, we believe that caring for the earth is a responsibility we share. We are committed to continuing to learn, to listening with humility, to growing in ways that respect the land, and to finding meaningful ways to support reconciliation within our community.

We are grateful to live, grow and gather here, and we hold this land, its waters and its people with respect.
